Gaetano ‘Guy’ Leggio, 62, is a third-generation Bay Shore resident, a 1981 Bay Shore High School graduate, and a U.S. Navy veteran who served aboard the USS Farragut (1981-85) as Recruit Chief Petty Officer, leading 86 men in boot camp and joining the Multinational Peacekeeping Force in Beirut (1983-84). For over 40 years, he’s been a bricklayer with Local One Bricklayers Union, currently at Giaquinto Masonry (2023-present), managing 60-70 workers, payroll, safety, and OSHA compliance. Previously, he worked as a foreman and shop steward at 82 Contracting (2012-2022) and other firms since 1986, mentoring young tradespeople.
Since 2008, Guy has been a Bay Shore Board of Education Trustee, serving as president three times (2011-12, 2019-20, 2022-23) and earning the 2023 Everett R. Dyer Award—the highest honor from the New York State School Boards Association—for his dedication to education. He’s built the Middle School’s 9/11 Memorial Garden, donated a three-car garage to Bay Shore High School, and secured the Guy Leggio Cafetorium for Universal Pre-K. A 39-year volunteer firefighter with the Bay Shore Fire Department, he’s held roles like Captain of Penataquit Hose Co. (1989-94), Fire Department Trustee (2002-08), and Band Master (1997-2023), winning two state championships.
A wrestling legend, Guy coached East Islip High School’s varsity team (1989-2015) to a 270-144-5 record, with 12 league titles, 2 county championships, and a 2014 state runner-up finish. He founded East Islip Kid Wrestling (1991), was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (2013) and Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame (2019)—honored by the town on June 20, 2019—and now serves as Suffolk Wrestling Officials President (elected 2025). His awards include Sailor of the Year (1983, 1984), SCOPE Awards (2010, 2013, 2018), and the 1995 Jenkins Award.
Married to Maryann for 38 years, Guy lives with his children James (Master’s in Special Education), Christopher (Suffolk Community College), and Megan (Stony Brook University). ‘Guy Leggio is a profile in public service,’ says Superintendent Steven J. Maloney. He’s running for Suffolk District 9 Legislator to bring results to our community.
Guy Leggio’s mission is to serve Suffolk District 9 with integrity, action, and a relentless focus on our community’s needs—stronger schools, safer streets, thriving businesses, and a protected environment. His supporters back him to deliver real results for the people, not political agendas, drawing on decades of hands-on service to build a better future for all.
Guy Leggio has spent his life serving our community—building schools, coaching kids, and fighting fires. District 9 needs a leader who acts, not a career politician who talks without results. Guy will tackle our needs with honest, hands-on leadership to improve our quality of life.
Unlike others, Guy isn’t here for political games or empty promises. The Friends of Guy Leggio know he’s for the people—focused on action, not words. His 40 years in construction, Navy leadership, and 18 years on the school board prove he can deliver real change.
"This isn’t about politics—it’s personal. I’ve coached your kids, built our schools, and served next door. The best advice I got in the Navy was, ‘Lead with integrity and prioritize your team.’ That’s how I’ll serve District 9—listening, learning, and working for you"
